Easy ways to save money when times are hard

Here are some easy ways to save money – it makes a real difference in a short time and means that you can still ski and holiday in the sun despite the downturn:

Call your contents insurer when your contents insurance comes up for renewal

I just reduced ny insurance from £312 to £160 by calling Direct Line and telling them that I had found a deal at £99 – this was true actually – AIG believe it or not:)

Shop at Lidl

Our bills have fallen from £160 to £80 per week. Not only is Lidl cheaper but one is not tempted by the value-add at the premium supermarkets.

Cook more

We are now enjoying cooking at home more. Cooking as a couple is not easy but when it works its fun! Try oldies such as Floyd on France or La Cuisiniere Provencale. A great favourite with our children is Tomates Provencale – cut beef tomatos in half horizonatlly, place them in a frying pan with a cover, slop on some olive oil, chopped parsley and garlic and slow cook for at least an hour.  After 30 mins remove the lid.

Make sushi

Many people find sushi delicious. It is easy and fun to make and very cheap. I fed 6 people with £11 of fish, a few beansprouts and an aubergine the other day.
